Fresh Starts

Once a year on December 31st we are allowed to put the past year behind us and celebrate a new one, a new beginning. Why is it that on that particular day we have the ability to forget our past regrets and mistakes and start fresh? We make resolutions that are pertainant to improving things about ourselves that perhaps in the past year we have not done so well at upkeeping. But who is to say that we only get one chance a year to do that? Why can't we, on any given day, decide to start fresh and be the better version of ourselves? Why is it that on January 1st we are on our very best behaviours, and as the year goes on we are almost expected to fall into a downwards slope? We should be able to do this at any point of the year, a day where we come to a realization that things aren't going so well and its time to step it up a notch, so we do, and people don't question it. Or maybe if we stopped and took time for ourselves once a day we wouldn't need to regret or forget a whole year, but rather be happy with who we are every morning. And every morning we are able to say, "Yeah, you know what, things are going to be okay". Because things are okay and we don't need one night to feel like we have a fresh start, every morning is our fresh start, and every day a new beginning.
